Throughout the school year, children in need are provided free meals during the school day. But with school out of session and soaring costs for groceries, many families struggle to provide consistent and nutritious meals for their children during the summer. That’s where our Kids Summer Food (KSF) Program comes in.

Thanks to a grant from the U.S.D.A., Catholic Charities’ Kids Summer Food is able to provide meals to children who may not have access to regular meals during the summer months.

“We are currently on track to exceed more than double the amount of meals served in recent years as more people are coming to our sites due to surging food costs,” said Chanel Griffin, Food & Nutrition Coordinator at Catholic Charities.

We are committed to providing healthy and delicious meals to children in our community who need it most, and we understand that access to proper nutrition is essential for the physical and mental well-being of children.

“Our community partners include libraries, churches and after-school programs. So in addition to receiving a free meal, children can also participate in summer reading programs and enrichment activities – all at a safe location,” added Griffin.

If you are interested in supporting this program, we are currently seeking site coordinators and volunteers to operate our locations across the KC-metro area. Please click here for more information.
