Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas will be hosting a Cost of Poverty Experience (COPE) on Saturday, October 25, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Parish Hall at St. Michael the Archangel Parish. This training is offered to broaden the understanding of poverty in our community.
COPE is a simulation that allows participants to experience poverty through the stories of real families. It promotes awareness of the realities of poverty and helps individuals better understand the systemic issues of poverty. During the simulation, you will have the opportunity to walk in someone’s shoes who lives in poverty and experience the day-to-day struggles that arise in their lives. COPE helps Catholic Charities evaluate ourselves as an agency and where we can serve those we meet with dignity; it also equips us to develop new strategies. This simulation is set up for a specific number of people, so pre-registration is required.
