A pregnant woman came to Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas for assistance. She had just lost the father of her baby. She was sad, overwhelmed, untrusting and feeling broken. While navigating how to process the loss of her child’s father, she was also trying to take care of her pregnancy and prepare for the baby’s birth.
A Catholic Charities case manager connected with her and enrolled her in our Pregnancy Support Services program. The case manager’s gentle spirit and willingness to listen, connect and provide support during this very difficult time were evident to the client. The case manager and the client met every few weeks, gathering baby items, doing educational training for the baby and spending time processing how she was going to parent without the father present.
The case manager provided the mother with resources to assist with housing and food. The client then moved into her own home, and is now working and caring for her child. The baby is growing and attending regular doctors’ appointments. Thanks to the support the mother received, she now feels much more confident than before.
