Relationship. Identity. Mission.
We must be rooted in our relationship to God to develop our identity as sons and daughters of God, which will ultimately inform our mission. What is our mission? The mission of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas is to serve our neighbors, of all faiths, through help, hope and hospitality. The heart of our work is a resounding “Yes” in response to the question posed so long ago, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” (Gen 4:9). Why does the Church respond with such a resounding and echoing “Yes” to helping the poor, immigrants, the sick, the lonely, the hungry, the imprisoned and the marginalized?
“The person is not only sacred but also social. How we organize our society—in economics and politics, in law and policy—directly affects human dignity and the capacity of individuals to grow in community. Marriage and the family are the central social institutions that must be supported and strengthened, not undermined. We believe people have a right and a duty to participate in society, seeking together the common good and well-being of all, especially the poor and vulnerable.“ – USCCB
This powerful statement informs the work we do at all levels within the organization, from how we strive to make our programs accessible, supportive, and strengthen the client, to our work as an agency in advocacy at the city and state levels. We truly believe that as a community, we can pull together to support all of our brothers and sisters in need.
How are you being invited to grow in relationship, identity, and mission?
Pray: Lord, I ask for growth in my relationship with you, form and shape my identity as your son or daughter so that I may best live out the mission you are calling me to. Lord, let me do all things for the love of you and allow me to be your hands and feet.
