Foster Grandparents Program Celebrated at National Service Day Event

On April 3, the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) federal funders, Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), sponsored a special event recognizing the impact of  AmeriCorps and Senior Corps programs in the KC Metro. The event was a celebration reception for National Service Day of Recognition.

Grandma Betty Jean Walker shares a few stories of her FGP experience.
Wyandotte County Mayors read proclamation.

The celebration was held at City Year in the River Market and was a special thank you for the service of volunteers in Americorps and Senior Corps programs in the KC Metro area. Staff from FGP (Chrissy Carver & Shelia Freeman) and CCNEK (Ernie Boehner) joined Foster Grandparents at the reception. One of our Foster Grandparents, Betty Jean Walker, shared her experience volunteering in the KCK school district.  She had all of the three mayors in stitches (Mayors Sly James-KCMO, Jeff Harrington-Bonner Springs, & John McTaggart-Edwardsville). The Wyandotte County mayors read a proclamation supporting National Service programs and Sly James spoke on the impact volunteers have in the community.
