Five years ago a group of women with a passion for helping refugees in the community came together with a plan. From that meeting, “The Gathering” was born. The Gathering is a ladies event held each Fall to celebrate the New Roots for Refugees farmers and their season’s harvest. More than 130 guests attended The Gathering held on September 26.

The evening consisted of a short, informative program followed by delectable catered dishes utilizing produce provided by the New Roots for Refugees farmers. Guests also took the opportunity to shop the farmer’s market set up in the host’s courtyard.

This year’s Gathering had record-breaking success, raising over $24,000! All proceeds support the New Roots for Refugees program, a ministry of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas.
