We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended our annual World Refugee Day event. The event was a tremendous success thanks to volunteers, staff, event attendees and partners who contributed their time and resources. Your support enabled us to create a memorable and impactful experience for all who participated!
World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations. It falls each year on June 20 and commemorates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. It is an occasion to build empathy and understanding for the plight of refugees and to recognize their resilience and effort to rebuild their lives. Every year, Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas hosts a World Refugee Day event in honor of the families that have been resettled in our community and in advocacy for those still displaced abroad.
“Refugees shape this world for the better. World Refugee Day is a day to honor and celebrate the stories of those in the refugee community,” said Hope Thompson, Refugee Programs Manager at Catholic Charities. “By working together, we can continue to make a difference and create a world where refugees are welcomed, empowered and given the chance to thrive,” she added.
