Did you know that one in five children in Kansas experiences food insecurity?

No child should wonder when they will eat their next meal, but many families lack consistent access to food. Our annual Kids Summer Food Program provides free meals funded by the USDA to children and teens up to age 18. Last year, over 41,097 nutritious meals and snacks were provided to hungry children participating in our Kids Summer Food and after school meal programs at 28 metro and rural sites. With the help of volunteers, we hope to serve even more meals this year!

“Volunteers are critical to this program and truly serve as the face of Kids Summer Food,” said Camille Pickhinke, Director of Community Engagement. This year, we are in need of volunteers who can help set-up and clean-up meal areas; distribute meals to children; track meal counts; participate in activities with kids to encourage attendance; and inform library patrons about the Summer Food Program and invite them to join.
