In 2021, Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas internally launched a social enterprise incubator encouraging staff to submit innovative and practical ideas. Of the nearly 20 ideas that were submitted, several were chosen to develop into formal business plans, including Morning Glory Estate Sales, which successfully hosted its first sale at the end of April.
Over 10 volunteers and Catholic Charities staff helped work the sale, which was located in Old Leawood. Sale visitors were extremely complimentary, commenting specifically on how well organized and displayed the items were. The estate sale boasted many unique artifacts including Remington Bronzes, Mid Century Modern furniture pieces, a rare vintage PEZ dispenser, Mid Century Bose floor speakers, a collection of Barbie doll shoes and other antique finds.
“There were so many memorable purchases from our first sale. A special moment was when an older gentleman bought more than 80 vintage storybooks to create a home library for his soon-to-be-born grandchild. The books that were sold were so charming and vintage. You can’t find these types of books nowadays,” said Ginger Jackson, Manager of Estate Sales.
Morning Glory Estate Sales provides an experienced and professional estate liquidation service to clients living within Johnson County, with the intent to expand the enterprise’s service area in the near future. Items that were not sold through the estate sale will be donated to families in need through our Refugee & Immigration Services program and Family Support Centers. Items will also be sold through TurnStyles Thrift Stores, eBay or an online auction with proceeds advancing the mission of Catholic Charities.
