A woman from Burma, May Thair Aye, that began classes with us in September, started out with little to no knowledge of the English language. She was not able to read or write in English and wouldn’t speak or repeat things in our Refugee and Immigration Services English Language Learning (ELL) Level A English class. Over the past couple of months, she has started to become more engaged in the class and is now able to read short conversations with a partner on the board and helps lower level partners learn to read.
The Catholic Charities Learning Center staff members are all so impressed with the progress May Thair Aye has made in such a short period of time. She has become a leader in the class and has learned critical skills that will assist her on her path to self-sufficiency in her new community!
