Latasha, a single mom of 2 kids, was referred to one of our local Emergency Assistance Centers (EACs) by the American Red Cross of Greater Kansas City. Her family had just lost everything due to a fire in her apartment complex.
Latasha’s had just moved into the apartment complex a few weeks prior to the fire. She had just bought furniture including beds for her kids. Latasha was devastated after the fire but she was so relieved that her family and everyone in the complex got out safely.
She is working full time but needed help finding a new place to rent and furniture since all her family’s things were destroyed in the fire. Our case manager was able to take her to our thrift store, TurnStyles, for household items and clothes; helped with a portion of rent for her family’s new apartment; and connected her with area partner agencies to assist her family with other services. Latasha was extremely happy and thankful to our case manager for the referrals and assistance and shared, “We just didn’t know where to go. Thank goodness Red Cross sent us to Catholic Charities.”
She continued, “There’s so many little ways people can help each other. I didn’t realize that shopping at TurnStyles actually helps people right here in KC* that are going through a tough time like my family. Now I tell the folks I work with to check out TurnStyles. The quality of stuff is good and the prices can’t be beat and when you buy something you’re helping other KC folks out.”
