Joe and Jim, brothers who live together in a rural county, recently visited with our Case Manager on one of our Resource Buses. Both men are in their 40s and have cognitive challenges. Joe works a part-time job and Jim is waiting to receive Social Security Disability Income. They use a wood burning stove to cook with but they are able to heat their home with propane. Jim explained that they “live off the land” as much as possible including using well water. With the cold weather they needed to fill their propane tank. Their mother helps occasionally but her limited income didn’t allow her to pay the propane bill in full. Because the brothers had been long time customers, the local propane company was willing to fill their tank, take a partial payment from their mother and send Catholic Charities the remaining bill. This is not a usual practice with propane companies who want full payment when the service is provided. This local company offered an option that will keep Joe and Jim warm throughout the winter. We are so thankful for companies like this – helping their neighbors in need every day! #hopestory
