Single mother Janie requested assistance on her gas bill. The application process and required documentation was explained. The case manager discussed the financial education requirement of completing a Money Smart 101 module online and suggested Janie complete a component before her appointment to save time. When Janie met the case manager she provided four certificates of completing four Money Smart modules. She found that she was actually learning something from each module. One of the modules discussed the basics of borrowing money which included payday loans. Janie said she had considered using a payday loan to get out of her current situation. After learning about that process she found it to be a terrifying alternative that she wants no part of. Janie was grateful for the assistance and for the knowledge she gained about maintaining her finances.
