Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas Volunteers Recognized for Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) National Volunteer of the Year Award!

Five of our most dedicated volunteers, Kristie Altman, Mark and Patty Couch, Donna Juenemann and Beth Naperstak, received acknowledgment from Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) during the organization’s nomination for the 2025 National Volunteer of the Year Award. These individuals were nominated by our staff for the award, which recognizes and honors volunteers who have answered God’s call to ease the suffering of those in need. All individuals have served with our agency for more than three years, and fulfill our mission daily, to serve our neighbors of all faiths, through help, hope and hospitality. Below is feedback from our staff about what makes these volunteers so incredible, and why we are so lucky and grateful to have them as part of our volunteer team!

  • “Kristie is like another employee, however, graciously giving her free time to serve others. I know Kristie does not do this work to be noticed or get awards, she does this work because it is her passion to serve as God has called her to. Kristie is a true representation of a volunteer and a sister of Christ,” said Christina Campos, Manager, Olathe Family Support Center.
  • “Mark and Patty are dedicated to serving each one of our families that arrives in the U.S. They are two of our longest serving dedicated volunteers in the Refugee & Immigration Services Reception & Placement program, and are always willing to help,” said Erin Ahring, Community Workforce Development Coordinator (formerly Reception & Placement Coordinator).
  • “Donna is devoted, humble and understands the community that she is working for. It is hard work to serve a community that is struggling to live comfortably due to mental illness, limited resources and rising market prices. Donna never asks for recognition. She continues to volunteer because the work is good and impactful,” said Raylan Jackson, Case Manager, Wyandotte County (WyCo) Family Support Center.
  • “Every person who meets Beth grows fond of her. She plants seeds of hope and joy in the lives of those she serves. Her cheerful and loving spirit is contagious; simply talking to her for a moment can brighten someone’s day. She offers the best advice, and clients have expressed that they love coming to Catholic Charities when she is at the front desk,” said Alexa Ruiz Pizano, Case Manager, Olathe Family Support Center.
