Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas has been resettling refugees since 1975, but one of the newer ways we have engaged with displaced refugee youth is through a refugee mentorship program, known as ReCONNECT.

The program originated as a plan to help refugee youth gain assurance to achieve their educational and career goals. Our main objective is to increase a sense of belonging, self-confidence and motivation in refugee youth. We want to engage refugee youth in their communities and help enhance opportunities for their educational and professional growth.

The ReCONNECT program works with refugee youth between the ages of 15 and 24 and mentors must be 21+. Mentors are adequately trained before being paired with program participants.

We are now recruiting ReCONNECT mentors through May 12. If you are interested in joining this rewarding program, please email Elena Hardy or Emmaculata Sanga for further details and sign up information
