In celebration of the 400th anniversary of the Vincentian charism, the Employee Mission Team with the Sisters of Charity in Leavenworth set out to collect 400 non-perishable food items for Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas’ Leavenworth food pantry. They surpassed that goal – collecting 971 items!
Vincentian charism refers to the teachings of St. Vincent de Paul, the 17th century priest who lived and served in France. The 400th anniversary observance commemorates two encounters of St. Vincent de Paul in 1617 as the beginning of the Vincentian charism or spirit. A dying man and a family in need touched Vincent’s heart and led him to redirect his life toward charity and concern for the poor. The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth are among the religious communities and lay organizations that trace their roots to St. Vincent de Paul.
Thank you to the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Employee Mission Team for helping feed the hungry. It is a fitting tribute to St. Vincent de Paul’s life of service to the poor.
