Safiya’s Hope Story: A Healthy Start

Hi, my name is Safiya and this is my hope story…

After arriving in January, my son was suffering from several health problems including cerebral palsy and digestive problems that prevented him from eating solid food and often getting sick after eating. Once we arrived, Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas took us to Children’s Mercy for my son’s care.

We went to Children’s Mercy almost daily trying to address his digestive problems and his cerebral palsy. This month the doctors ran several tests to determine why my son was getting sick after eating. They were able to identify the problem that when he ate, food was going down the wrong pipe and was causing infections. He had surgery at Children’s Mercy and is now able to eat without getting sick and the doctors confirmed that he will no longer get infections from eating. I am so grateful that Catholic Charities was so quick to get my son medical attention and we can have a healthy start.
