Rod’s Hope Story: Overcoming Barriers

Hi, my name is Rod and this is my hope story…

A few months ago I looked to the Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas Mobile Resource Bus for help. I am a father and was working as a seasonal worker, but had not received a paycheck in months. My family was barely scraping by and needed rental assistance to keep from getting kicked out.

There were resources available in the area, but a language barrier made it hard for me to access what we needed. I was able to coordinate a phone visit with one of the Catholic Charities case managers, and sent the forms to the case manager in an email so she could translate what was needed. It took the combined efforts of our family, three social service agencies, and an understanding landlord to work out a way to keep us in our current place of residence. In this time of fear and confusion, specifically targeting those that don’t have the luxury of being part of the majority due to country of origin, a collaboration of people coming together to serve everyone in need. This…this fills me with an overwhelming sense of hope.
