At Catholic Community Hospice, our staff not only cares for the patient, but provides support to family members. As one of our Hospice case managers finished up assessing her patient, Rita, she noticed that Rita’s daughter, Jodi, seemed overwhelmed. Jodi had worked a 16-hour shift before coming to care for her mother. She was exhausted. Concerned about the effect Rita’s illness was having on her daughter, our case manager asked Jodi how she was doing. Next, she calmly took Jodi’s vital signs and found them to be within normal range. Before heading out, our case manager helped Jodi plan the rest of the day, including a delivery of medications later that evening. Our case manager made sure that both Rita and Jodi would get adequate rest and also told them to call her with any other concerns.
