My name is Regina and this is my hope story.
Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas recently came to the high school where I work as an interpreter. They were sharing with the students and their families about all the ways Catholic Charities might be able to help them or their neighbors.
As I was helping to interpret the Catholic Charities presentation, I realized that I could be helped by Catholic Charities as well! I was thrilled to learn about the La Luz Legal Services. La Luz means The Light and I was hopeful that they could literally be my light at the end of the tunnel. After the presentation was over, I explained to the Catholic Charities staff that my last filing of residency papers was complicated and the lawyers wanted more than $600 to help me.
La Luz was able to get all of my needs met for just $50. More importantly, it allowed me to keep serving our community by helping the students and parents at our high school. I assist more than 15 people each week with reaching educational goals – and I wouldn’t have been able to continue working at the high school without the help of the La Luz staff.
