During the month of October the Church celebrates many saints. Examining and increasing our devotion to the saints should always deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ. The lives of the saints are a beautiful example of how to live as the hands and feet of Jesus, regardless of our circumstances. A life of virtue is lived in big and small ways. On October 4, we celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. He lived a life dedicated to the poor and understanding what it means to be ‘poor in spirit’ (Matthew 5:3). He is known for giving away all of his possessions to live a life among the poor, in living such a radical life he shows us the importance and dignity of those who are experiencing poverty.
Prayer:
Let us desire nothing else
let us wish for nothing else
let nothing else please us and cause us delight
except our Creator and Redeemer and Saviour,
the One True God, Who is the Fullness of Good,
all good, every good, the true and supreme Good;
Let nothing hinder us, nothing separate us or nothing come between us.
“May the power of your love O Lord, fiery and sweet as honey,
wean my heart from all that is under heaven,
so that I may die for love of your love
You who were so good as to die for the love of my love. Amen.
[St Francis of Assisi]
