One of the Citizenship Preparation Program graduates, Hla Thin Nwe, came back to the Citizenship
class party after passing her naturalization interview and spoke to her fellow students about her
experience. She said, (paraphrased) “Before my interview I was so scared and nervous. I dropped to
my knees and prayed, ‘Please God, let me get the easy questions!’ And then, they asked me, ‘Who
was the first President?’ I was so happy! ‘George Washington!’ Duh! And then they asked me who
my representative is, ‘Kevin Yoder!’ So easy! And I passed! I’m so happy! It was easy. And now I will
be a citizen!” Hla Thin Nwe has not yet received her naturalization ceremony date, but we are confident that
she will be just as happy and excited on that day and we look forward to celebrating it with her.
(Note: applicants are asked up to 10 of the 100 possible questions, and they must get 6 correct to
pass. If they answer the first 6 correct, they will not have to answer the remaining 4 questions. Hla Thin Nwe
correctly answered the first 6 questions, as has been common with most of our graduates.)
