At the 48th Annual Snow Ball gala benefiting Catholic Charities Foundation of Northeast Kansas, we premiered four films highlighting the impact that our programs have made in our communities. Each film was produced by Sistine Films and features inspiring stories of hope.
St. Rita Program: Zipporah's Story
Zipporah was born in Kenya. The oldest of five children, she has always been the caretaker for her family. At 22 years old, she came to America to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse – and provide much needed financial support to those she left behind. To help with expenses while
attending classes, she began working with Catholic Charities as a Swahili translator. There, she
experienced a life-changing moment when she was introduced to the St. Rita program.
"I don’t want poverty to continue in our family."
—Zipporah
Family Financial Transformations: Autumn's Story
Autumn never imagined she would need assistance from Catholic Charities. This generous mother of five children was married, running a successful business and building a beautiful five-bedroom log cabin. Unexpectedly, her personal life changed, and she lost some of these things she worked so hard for, including her independence. Through the Family Financial Transformations program, she gained the knowledge and tools to take care of her family on her own.
"It’s a hard thing to ask for help, it really is, but I’ll do anything for my children."
—Autumn
La Luz Legal Immigration Clinic
La Luz Immigration Clinic provides legal assistance to immigrants. The goal is to get them to a more stable status, whether that is getting a work permit, green card or citizenship. Since undocumented individuals often live in the shadows, the hope is to provide services so that they can live in “La Luz,” the light.
Resource Bus
The Resource Bus is Catholic Charities’ office on wheels. It travels to 15 rural counties packed with essential items. A case manager is on board to assess needs and help with direct financial assistance in communities lacking in resources. Every item and service gives dignity and makes those who need help feel loved, valued and heard.
