Our New Roots program, and Harvesters – The Community Food Network, have joined forces under the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program. This program addresses food insecurity in Kansas and supports purchasing food from socially disadvantaged farmers to feed underserved families within the community.
The first sale from New Roots farmers to Harvesters accounted for 65% of all wholesale deliveries and has since grown substantially. As of September 30, 2023, sales have totaled over $14,724!
“These sales help support the earned income of new urban farmers in Wyandotte County and provide fresh, nutritious vegetables to families in the Kansas City community. We are grateful to be part of this win-win program and will continue to share updates about the impact it has for the farmers in our New Roots program,” said Kristin Selby, New Roots Program Manager.
