Our Topeka Family Support Center has about 80 volunteers who are currently serving at the Front Desk, Food Pantry, and Coritia’s Corner Sandwich Ministry. Anna Feldt, Topeka Administrative Support Specialist says, ” I am impressed on a daily basis by the dedication, perseverance and humility with which our volunteers serve the clients in our community.”
During the pandemic, the volunteers helped make an enormous impact by helping continue to serve and assist our neighbors in need. Our food pantry volunteers work hard restocking our shelves and preparing bags and boxes of dry goods for the families. There is also a group that assists Corita’s Corner by making the sandwiches and sack lunches, and then another group who passes out the sack lunches.
Every Monday morning a group travels to three grocery stores to rescue items that the store is donating. They bring back all of the donated items to the food pantry to weigh and put them on our shelves. This group also arrives bright and early on Wednesday mornings to receive deliveries from about four organizations.
“We have some very devoted volunteers, once it was safe for them to return they have been here week after week serving our clients,” says Anna.
We are thankful for our dedicated volunteers who continue to serve with us to help provide to our neighbors in need.
