New Roots for Refugees farmer SiSi Cho is one of the most dedicated farmers in our program. She’s had nearly perfect attendance at our work-shops, loves learning new material and asking questions about farm business operation, and is constantly working to improve her English. Her greatest challenge — transportation. She didn’t have a driver’s license and her family only owned one car. With her husband working, SiSi had to be at the garden from very early morning to late evening. Because of her dedication, program staff was surprised when she told us she would not be at the upcoming workshop- until we found out that she had to miss the class due to driver’s education! After receiving her driver’s license, it was very clear how proud she was of the accomplishment. Now, SiSi is planning ahead and thinking about her farm business. When we asked her if her family would get another car, she nodded and said “yes, a big truck!” so that she could get herself to market in the coming years. We’re so excited for SiSi to have reached another level of independence!
