A Christmas Message from Ken Williams, CEO & President

“Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.” “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.”

Those words were spoken by the angel Gabriel more than 2,000 years ago. Imagine what thoughts would run through your head if those words were spoken directly to you. Perhaps you would think that your prayers for a loved one’s health or a neighbor’s financial situation would be answered? Perhaps that a sin recently committed would be forgiven? If you are like me, I would immediately think about how the Lord’s favor is going to benefit me personally.

Not Mary. She knew that it couldn’t get much worse in her day than being a young, single woman with child. Yet, she joyfully accepted the Lord’s will for her life.

The staff and volunteers at Catholic Charities strive every day to serve those in need. Not because it brings glory to them personally. Not because they are well compensated. Not because it was the only job they could get. Rather, like Mary, they do the best they can to answer the Lord’s call and will for their life. It’s not easy work, but it brings peace, joy, and hope none of which money can buy.

From everyone here at Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas, Merry Christmas, and may you answer the call of our Lord Jesus for your life, no matter the cost.
