Amidst the noise, distractions, numerous ways to obtain instant gratification and the many other things vying for our attention, the Church, in her wisdom, invites us into a time of silence and reflection this Lenten season. This is a time to pause, journey with the Lord towards His passion, death and resurrection, and ask Jesus to renew our hearts to love Him and our neighbors more.
Recently, Pope Francis released his fourth encyclical, Dilexit Nos (On the human and divine love of the heart of Jesus Christ). In it, he describes the heart of Jesus as “ecstasy, openness, gift and encounter. In that heart, we learn to relate to one another in wholesome and happy ways and build up God’s kingdom of love and justice in this world. Our hearts, united with Christ’s heart, can work this social miracle” (28). This social miracle is possible when we are united to His heart and are drawn close to those in need. Like Christ, we are invited to walk close to those in need of hope, healing and hospitality. These things cannot be done from afar.

Pray: Lord, open my heart to encounter Yours. Amen.
Fast: What is one small way to seek silence and create an intentional space to encounter the heart of Jesus?
Almsgiving: How are you being invited to give of your time or talent to walk with someone in need this Lenten season?
