It’s not uncommon these days to encounter someone on a street corner or in a parking lot with a sign asking for assistance. It fills many of us with a sense of guilt and helplessness because we don’t exactly know what to do. A simple, yet impactful, way that you and your family can help those in need is by creating a “Blessing Bag.” Blessing Bags are small care packages that you can put together, keep in your car and hand out to individuals who may be experiencing homelessness or hardship.
Ideas for items to include in a Blessing Bag can be:
- A bottle of water to quench their thirst.
- A granola bar, peanut butter crackers or other snack for nourishment.
- A drawing from a child or a note of encouragement to lift their spirits.
- A Catholic Charities Locations card, which includes a list of phone numbers for each of our offices. Catholic Charities can provide Location cards to you, if requested. To learn more please email [email protected].
