We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers and staff of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas. Their invaluable help with our Kids Summer Food program allowed us to provide 38,326 nutritious meals to children in need this summer.
In Kansas, one in seven children are food insecure, meaning they lack consistent access to food that is required to live out a healthy lifestyle. Thanks to our Kids Summer Food program, we were able to fill this gap and provide meals at 27 sites throughout Northeast Kansas. Nearly 32,611 meals were served in rural counties and 5,715 meals were served at metro county sites, including a mobile bus route in Wyandotte County and libraries in Johnson County.
“Not only are children being fed through our Kids Summer Food program, both parents and kids are building new friendships at meal sites. This program has also provided a place where kids can learn, play and grow – impacting our community in many healthy ways,” said Chanel Griffin, Food and Nutrition Coordinator.
Thank you for joining us in the fight against childhood hunger! The commitment of those who assisted with our Kids Summer Food program has made a real difference in the lives of children across Northeast Kansas.
