Our Growing Family

HOPEFUL ADOPTIVE PARENTS

About Jen

Jen grew up in Kansas City, KS with her parents and sister on an acre of land full of animals her friends called “the zoo.” Her family also volunteered to care for injured wildlife until they could be released.

Raised in Catholic schools, Jen learned faith & service from her parents’ active Church involvement. She played volleyball & pitched softball for 11 years. After college, she worked in childcare & education before moving into full-time Youth Ministry. Jen also spent years at Catholic summer camps, including Camp Tekakwitha, where she was both camper & staff. One of Jen’s favorite hobbies is reading. She reads around 60 books a year.

About Josh

Josh was born in New York City while his dad served in the Marine Corps and moved to Lee’s Summit, Missouri at age 4. An only child, he grew up loving Power Rangers, Barney, and Sesame Street, and in high school competed in roller hockey, cross country, and track. A music fan, he enjoys all genres and going to concerts.

Josh graduated from the University of Central Missouri in 2016 with a degree in Marketing and now works in Logistics as a Client Operations Specialist, managing customer service and sales accounts. Inspired by his parents, he values hard work, kindness, and love for others.

Our Story

We are Josh & Jen, we were married in the Catholic Church on November 11, 2017. Our faith is the heart of our marriage and life together. Jen grew up in the Catholic Church, attending Catholic school from grade school through college. Josh became Catholic in 2011 and found a deep sense of community and purpose through his college Newman Center, where he joined Bible studies and formed lifelong friendships. We are both blessed to serve in many ministries at our Church and find joy in growing in faith together.

We cherish life’s simple joys—playing card games on our deck, taking cooking or painting classes, going on spontaneous day trips, and decorating for the holidays. We treasure travel, whether exploring new places like St. Lucia or Sedona, or enjoying time with family in Tennessee and Branson.

In 2021, we opened our hearts and home through foster care. Welcoming children of all ages—some for a short time and one for years—taught us the depth of love, patience, and joy that comes with parenting. It strengthened our dream of growing our family through adoption.

We are deeply grateful for the chance to share our story with you. We pray daily for your courage and peace in this journey, and we promise to love, protect, and nurture your child with all our hearts.

Extended Family

Josh’s parents, Pat and Sherry, live nearby, as does Jen’s dad, Joe. Jen’s mom passed away in 2021, but we know she is watching over our family. Jen’s sister, Sarah, lives in Tennessee with her husband and their kids, Liam and Cheyenne. We love visiting them a couple of times a year to play games, run around outside, and make memories together. When we can’t be there in person, we stay connected with lots of FaceTime calls.

Our Home

We became homeowners in 2020. We enjoy spending time in our back yard & grilling on our back porch. We keep busy with house projects and enjoy welcoming friends and family to visit. In our backyard we have a swing set and sandbox that are ready to be played with and loved on!

Our Pets

Raven (dog) joined us in 2015 from Wayside Waifs & loves walks, cheese & popcorn. Jade (cat) showed up the same year and became family—she loves naps, catnip & bird-watching. Casper (bunny), adopted in 2021, adores treats & is great with kids.

Our Favorite Traditions

One of our favorite traditions is visiting Crown Center the weekend before Christmas. On our first date, Josh took Jen there to see the lights and grab coffee, and we’ve gone back every year since. We also enjoy dinner with Josh’s parents, Christmas in the Park, and the Magic Tree. We decorate the Friday after Thanksgiving, dress up for Halloween, and celebrate our Irish heritage at Irish Fest. Holidays are special to us, especially family time and watching Chiefs games on Sundays.
