During the month of August the Church celebrates the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord (August 6), this stunning event where the apostles Peter, James and John briefly witnessed Jesus’ glory and power (Mt 17:1-8, Mk 9:2-8, or Lk 9:28-36). Yet, Jesus chooses not to remain with Elijah and Moses, rather he returns to remain with the apostles and people who are in need of spiritual, physical healing and His accompaniment. Each of us are called to be transfigured and become more Christ-like to accompany those that God places before us.
Reflect:
“Every Christian used to say Gloria Dei, vivens homo or “the glory of God is the living person.” We could make this more concrete by saying Gloria Dei, vivens pauper, “the glory of God is the living poor person.” From the perspective of the transcendence of the gospel, I believe we can determine what the life of the poor truly is. And I also believe that by putting ourselves alongside the poor and trying to bring life to them, we shall come to know the eternal truth of the gospel..” – St. Oscar Romero
