Hours:  4-5 hours per shift, 1-2 shifts per week

• Morning (priority): Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM – 12 PM (return may run to 1 PM)
• Afternoon (optional): Monday-Thursday, 1 PM – 4 PM

Program overview

Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas’ Hope Distribution Center (HDC) receives, stores, and distributes bulk food donations to our network of Family Support Centers and partner pantries. Volunteers in this role keep those shelves stocked so neighbors facing food insecurity can receive help quickly and consistently. 

Purpose of the role

To accompany warehouse staff on daily delivery routes, safely load and unload product, and help keep the HDC floor organized and efficient so every pantry order is accurate and on time.

Duties

• Accompany a CCNEK driver on scheduled routes; lift and carry individual boxes (up to 45 lbs) from pallets into receiving pantries.
• Occasionally transport produce using an agency vehicle.
• Build pallets for each pantry’s weekly order by pulling requested items from inventory.
• Offload mixed pallets of sorted food into correct warehouse zones (dry, refrigerated, freezer).
• Assist warehouse management with light cleaning and general organization as needed.

Qualifications

• Able to repeatedly lift 45 lbs and stand or walk for extended periods.
• 21 years or older; able to provide a valid photo ID and pass an MVR check.
• Comfortable riding in box trucks and following basic safety protocols.
• Dependable and punctual – route departure is time-sensitive.
• Positive attitude, willingness to take direction from warehouse staff, and a heart for serving neighbors in need.
• Completion of CCNEK volunteer onboarding, including background check and brief warehouse safety training.
