Volunteer Job Title: Digital Access/ Inclusion Services  

Start Date: ASAP 

Length of Commitment: 6 months 

Weekly Hrs: 1-2 

Days of the week:  

  • Swahili Class at 600 Minnesota: Mondays 9:30-10:30 & Wednesdays 10:00-11:00  
  • Dari Class at Oak Park Library: Mondays & Wednesdays 1:00pm 

Basic knowledge of computers and other electronics is critical to life in the U.S. From scheduling appointments online to accessing school and bank websites, maintaining basic computer skills is necessary for completing daily life tasks. However, most refugees have extremely limited digital awareness.  

The Refugee Learning Center’s latest offering provides digital education courses and technology-specific case management to refugees so that they can become more computer literate. 

 

Volunteer Roles & Duties  

  • Volunteer drivers will assist with transporting clients to and from the class. 
  • Volunteers help remotely as ‘one-to-one’ tutors, for example, assisting from their home to conduct a pre-determined lesson on the computer using the ‘Quick Assist’ program to guide clients from their own computer virtually using the client’s computer. 
  • Volunteers are needed to assist in the classroom. This would include helping keep the children of the clients in the class occupied and helping clients follow the class. 
Time Commitment:
1-2 hours per week with a 6 month commitment
