Farm Share

Fresh, Local Produce Every Week

New Roots Farm Share is a CSA program (Community Supported Agriculture) that provides subscribers with 5-7 locally-grown, seasonal vegetables and herbs each week of the season. Shares can be picked up at one of our four pick-up sites around the greater Kansas City area according to the schedule below. Sign up today to enjoy fresh produce while supporting our farmers!

How it Works

Subscribing to a Farm Share

Each Farm Share contains produce grown by trainee farmers and graduates from the program. By making payments in advance or in installments, you help provide consistent capitol for expenses such as seeds and tools for the farmers.

To subscribe to a Farm Share, please make an account on Local Food Marketplace. There, you can make payments, put your share on hold, purchase gift cards or shop the online farmer’s market for additional add-ons.

FAQs

New Roots farmers are experienced growers who are learning to farm in a new climate while also learning a new language and food culture. By purchasing a farm share from New Roots, you are supporting a family as they put down roots in Kansas City.

  • Early Summer Vegetable Share – May 15 – July 24  – $28.81/week (+ tax)
  • Late Summer Vegetable Share – August 7 – Oct. 16 – $28.81/week (+ tax)
  • Full Summer Share – $27.49/ week.

If you sign up for a Full Summer Share, you receive a reduced weekly price. We are also looking for volunteers to manage our pick-up sites in exchange for a discounted share. Please email us at [email protected] for more information before you sign up!

Currently we are only able to offer one share size for weekly pickup. If you would like to support the New Roots farmers but are unsure about the amount of produce, consider purchasing a share to split with another friend/family member, donating your share every other week or participating in our “Share-a-Share” program where you can purchase a share for any season to be delivered to one of nine food pantries in the Catholic Charities network on your behalf.

Pick up happens at any one of five locations located throughout the metro. Farm Share members pick up from New Roots farmers at the same pick up location every week (see below).

Pick Up Sites:

  • Plexpod Westport Commons, Wednesdays 11:30-1:00pm (300 E 39th Street, KCMO)

Farm Share customers can secure their share by signing up here. All payments and orders will be processed through Local Food Marketplace, an online CSA management system.

Each week your Farm Share will contain 5-6 vegetables that have been grown in Kansas City following sustainable practices. You can learn what will be in your share by checking the weekly email newsletter! Our farm staff and Sales Specialist work closely with each farmer during the season to bring you the highest quality produce possible! Your CSA share will contain vegetables familiar to a Midwestern palate as well as vegetables that are traditional to the farmers’ countries of origin. Additionally, you will be able to add products such as extra vegetables, flowers, meat from Drumm Farm or honey through out Local Food Marketplace site when available.

Part of the joy of supporting local agriculture is that we are subject to the whims of Kansas weather. New Roots will do our best to guarantee a steady and generous supply of all types of vegetables, but one of the lessons agriculture teaches us is just how little control we have in the world! If we come up short on individual crops, New Roots will supplement the missing crop with other varieties being grown at our farm. This also means that when there is an abundance of a particular crop (bumper crop), you can expect larger quantities.

While certain traditional items like tomatoes, onions and lettuce will always be a favorite, other items like mustard greens and kohlrabi add depth and breadth to meals. Learning how to enjoy these foods is part of learning how to eat seasonally and locally. When possible, we will have a “swap box” available, where you can switch out an item you don’t like for something else. We hope that you’ll still embrace the adventurous nature of eating seasonally and try a few new things! We will send out regular newsletters with recipes and other information to help you make the most of your CSA share. Check out the Veggie ID page for more info.

If you cannot pick up your share for some reason, please first try to have a friend pick up your share! If you know a week in advance that you will miss your share, you can request a hold by emailing Veronica Ma Ket at [email protected]. New Roots is not able to issue refunds for missed shares.

Customers sign up on Local Food Marketplace and select the “Donation” option in lieu of a pickup site. You will still receive our newsletter weekly over the season.

When you sign up for our Farm Share, you are sharing in the risks and rewards of local food production and committing to our program for a specific portion of the growing season. Our staff and farmers follow a strict growing calendar to ensure each share is filled throughout the season and cannot easily make quick adjustments midseason. New Roots is unable to offer refunds for our Farm Share; if unexpected changes occur during the season and you can no longer pick up your CSA, New Roots staff will gladly facilitate donating your share to Catholic Charities’ collection of food pantries across the metro area. We will consider exceptions on a case-by-case basis. Refunds and cancellations will be charged a $30 administrative fee.
