About the TurnStyles Overland Park Store
Catholic Charities has always been blessed with a strong donor base. In fact, there were more calls from donors wanting to donate their household items than there were clients that could use the items. In July 2003, Catholic Charities made the decision to open a thrift store to sell excess items to the public with the proceeds going directly back to the agency.
With a group of about 20 volunteers, TurnStyles opened February 14, 2004 in a 2,800 square foot store. The donor drop-offs averaged 20 per week. After about 18 months, the number of donors, volunteers and customers grew, and the decision was made to move across the parking lot into our current location, an 18,000 square foot building. In October 2005, TurnStyles made the move with about 50 volunteers. Today, TurnStyles has more than $1 million in annual revenue and benefits from the support of hundreds of volunteers.
