Volunteer with New Roots

Farm Share Customer Distribution

The New Roots program works with refugee farmers to develop small farm businesses by providing hands-on support and education in the field, at farmers’ markets, and during English classes and skill-focused workshops.

Duties:

  • Set up and break down tables at Farm Share pick-up location
  • Deliver produce bags to customers picking up their shares
  • Wear a mask and practice social distancing at all times
  • Demonstrate basic food-safety practices
  • Demonstrate successful communication with customers
  • Document customer questions and comments
  • Positively represent the New Roots program and treat customers with friendliness and respect

Qualifications:

 

Required

  • Strong communication skills, including fluency in English
  • Ability to stay flexible and calm when unexpected situations arise
  • Schedule flexibility – be willing to work weekday hours during evenings and/or lunch hours
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to squat, get in and out of a truck bed, lift up to 20-40 lbs., set up 10’ x 10’ tents and 8’ tables

 

Preferred

  • Experience working in environments that are multi-cultural and multi-lingual
  • Experience with agriculture, gardening, or a related field
