Hope Hero Shout-Out

Jim was a recently retired project manager. Looking for opportunities to give back, he came across a volunteer opening within our Facilities department. When Jim came to the administrative office, for the official volunteer interview, he saw a verse from the Gospel of Matthew up on the wall. “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me…” Matthew (25:35-38). This reading is his favorite from the Bible. It was then that Jim knew that this would be a great fit for him.

Jim has now been a volunteer with Catholic Charities for the past six years, helping out almost monthly.

Jim has helped our Facilities department complete dozens of handyman repair projects across our offices and TurnStyles Thrift stores. He has also worked on more complex jobs that require detailed electrical work. Most recently he finalized an assignment that entailed rewiring lights in our administrative office, so that LED lights could be added to save money on the electric bill.

In addition to providing his personal talents with us, he also enjoys volunteering on our Resource Bus and grocery store food rescue teams.

“I really love the Resource Bus because I get to meet new people. Rural communities that the bus services have very strong volunteers from local parishes. The quality of people that I get to work with really make it a great experience,” said Jim.

We could not help those in need without the support of passionate volunteers, like Jim! If you have a unique skill or trade and are interested in volunteering, contact us at CCNEKvolunteers@catholiccharitiesks.org
