ReCONNECT is seeking dedicated adults in the Kansas City area who are interested in becoming mentors to refugee youth! Through weekly virtual check-ins and monthly in-person meetings, ReCONNECT mentors will provide guidance and encouragement to help their mentees thrive – educationally, socially and professionally. Mentors will also participate in fun program events with their mentees, including outings to sports games, field trips, picnics, bowling, volunteer opportunities and more!
The overall time commitment for a mentor volunteer is only a few hours per month, and a one-year time commitment, but the impact you’ll make on these young adults will last for life.
“I have enjoyed developing a relationship with my mentee and his family, who are from Afghanistan,” noted a current ReCONNECT mentor. “It’s been interesting to learn about their journey to the U.S. and the obstacles they face daily in a new country. It has also been rewarding to learn about a new culture and to help someone settle into life in this country.”
