STATEMENT – JANUARY 30, 2017

Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann
Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas

Statement on behalf of The Archdiocese and Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas

The Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas is reviewing the impact of President Trump’s executive order, “Protecting the Nation from Terrorist Entry Into The United States,” on its own refugee resettlement work. While it is entirely legitimate and indeed obligatory for the new Administration to assess the United States Refugee Admissions Program to ensure the safety of all Americans, we pray this analysis will be completed as expeditiously as possible so that the United States can resume its role in welcoming the stranger and helping those in need. The Catholic Church’s mission is to serve the refugees who are directed to us and to stand with those refugees throughout the resettlement process. In accordance with our belief in the dignity of every human person, the Catholic Church will continue to fulfill its Gospel mandate to serve those who are in need.
