Hope Hero Shout-Out

Fresh pens and pencils, multi-colored binders, and even backpacks can spark joy for children as they prepare for the start of a new school year. Not only can shopping for new supplies be a fun activity, these items are essential to a child having a successful school year. But for children whose families frequent our food pantries for meal assistance, the idea of receiving new school supplies is unheard of, “especially as inflation tightens family budgets,” says Jackie Masoner, Manager at our Leavenworth Family Support Center (FSC).

Earlier this August, Catholic Charities was able to raise funds to provide enough school supplies, backpacks, and winter coats for 200 children in the Leavenworth, Kansas community. The local Knights of Columbus supplied the coats that were distributed.

The back-to-school fundraiser and supply drive is an annual occurrence at our Leavenworth Family Support Center, but each year it makes an even more meaningful difference thanks to our generous donors, volunteers, and Leavenworth FSC team members.
